About Art Practice

Mid-point Review January 2010

WALL
The “gold” sculptures on the pink wall are complex biomorphic masses.
They are made with foam using the initial silicone moulds from my other feature sculptures , which I transformed to produce a more complicated and abstract result.
FLOOR-DESK
The 2 sculptures on the floor and the othe pieces, the miniatures for the animation and the medium one with the mould experiment, are all mutated pets .
The technical process of creation I  follow is : first the traditional 3d modelling in clay:To do this I build an armature for the model and build on it with clay. Once the model is complete I use it to make the mould from silicone and plaster. I then use the mould to cast the finished sculpture from foam. The sculptures are retouched with smalt paint so that it gives the viewer the illusion of being cast in gold.
The characteristic elements of my work are the use of two specific colors, “gold” and “pink”, the organic formation and the reference to the genetic mutation. The initial concept  is about an evolution in biogenetics through the arts and science fiction  with a creation of a totally new species of  life . The figures depict mutated alien beings with a strong reference to teratogenicity and mutation that is expressed through a combination of “pop” and “baroque” touches.
